3 Things That LGBTQ+ Tours of Paris are…NOT

What NOT to expect on tour with us…

“Oh, wow, this was not what we expected…in a good way!” — Happy Visitor to Paris

We’re always thrilled to hear from visitors who are surprised about how engaging and informative our tours are. But, like, what were they expecting? To help shape your expectations for an experience with us, here is a rundown of what our tours are not just so you can be better prepared.

1. We don’t just go to gay bars

So bars and watering holes are absolutely part of LGBTQ+ culture in Paris – though less and less these days. With the closing of Open Café last year, we lost yet another touchstone for the community in Paris.

All of that to say – don’t expect to bar hop on all of our tours. We take you to the places that have connections to French history and to Parisians who played a part in LGBTQ+ history. While many tours of Paris may go to places like Place des Vosges and the Hôtel de Ville, we put everything through a very specific LGBTQ+ lens, to share the stories that connect us all.

After the tour, then we can pop into a café! Need suggestions? We have you covered, as well!

2. We don’t just talk about Oscar Wilde

“Gay Paree” may be all you can think of, but few visitors to the City of Light actually know about its queer history. Some people may know that Oscar Wilde fled (and died) here at the end of his life, but he is just one of countless LGBTQ+ individuals who left their mark on Paris. We want to bring their stories to the surface.

Come with any knowledge you have to our tours, but be prepared to open your mind to learn a whole lot more. If names like La Coccinelle, Henri III, and Violette Morris mean nothing to you now, they will (hopefully) after a tour with us.

3. We don’t just recommend places to hook up

A look at the Google search engine terms that lead people to our website may suggest otherwise, but we aren’t in the business of facilitating hook-ups. We are a family-friendly touring company that can suggest places to go after the tour, but we’re more interested in getting you excited about French history and LGBTQ+ culture than anything else.

Of course, if you have questions about saunas, clubs, and parties, we are happy to share our advice. We know Paris isn’t just a giant museum, after all, and we do more than just sit around all day reading biographies of dead monarchs. Usually.

So you know what our tours are not, now it’s time to experience what they are for yourself! For custom itineraries or private tours, get in touch with us today to learn why Paris has been and continues to be one of the most welcoming destinations in Europe – despite what you may have heard otherwise!
